Volunteer Work

UMD LARS Lab

While I was attending UMD, I joined the Lab for Advanced Research in Systems in their effort to restore a Digital Equipment Corporation PDP-12. UMD’s example was built specifically in 1972. While I haven’t done much with the PDP, I have assumed a System Administrator role in the lab. LARS hosts multiple services for itself, as well as other activities the Computer Science department hosts. There currently is two Proxmox hosts, and OpenMediaVault backup target, a pfSense router, and a few other miscellaneous machines.

LSC GenCyber

Every year Lake Superior College hosts a week-long camp for kids aged 13-17 to learn cybersecurity aspects, and to tinker with computers, and learn coding. I was a camp counselor and was responsible for wrangling my group of 5 kids. I helped them with any issues they had with camp activities. I also helped in administration with developing ideas and activities for the kids to do during the week.
