Hello, my name is

Erik Poffenberger

IT Student

Who am I?

I am an enthusiastic IT student looking to cut my teeth in Sysadmin and IT Technician Roles.

About me

My name’s Erik and I’m currently attending Lake Superior College in Duluth, Minnesota, pursuing my AAS in Network Administration and Cybersecurity. I will graduate May 2024.

I got into system administration my freshman year at the University of Minnesota – Duluth (Fall 2019) when I purchased a used McAfee WG5000; a reverse proxy server built from a Dell PowerEdge R610. I attempted to make my own NAS at college, which didn’t really work. March 2020 I went home for spring break, and then never returned for the rest of the semester due to Covid-19. This allowed me to tinker more in-depth with the Dell on my own home network.

My Hobbies

Computers aren’t my only interest. I like taking pictures, working on cars, shooting sports, and when I’m doing none of the those, playing for the UMD Pep Band.

My Gallery

I shoot both film and digital, and I shoot Nikon. I find that both mediums provide their own advantages and disadvantages

Mechanic Work

Mostly self-taught, I take care of and maintain my own car as well as my family's cars.

Pep Band

I play drumset for the UMD Pep Band, and have been for 3 years. Music is an important part of my life, and I love being able to express myself

Shooting Sports

I participated in my high school's Trap Shooting Team, and have shot on LSC's Inter-Collegiate Trap Shooting Team
